Top winning entries will be submitted to the Grand Lodge Committee for State Wide competition. The Veterans Night Program will open with introductions by the Master of Ceremonies at 7:00 pm and include the Posting of Colors by the Young Marines and Arizona Marine Corps League. Presentations by the Jobes Daughters and W.B. Skip Boyer along with guest speaker, Tom Horn, Superintendent of Public Instruction. FROM THE EAST Greetings Brethren, Several months ago, our Secretary informed me that a Brother had passed away and had left the Lodge a small amount of money in his will. My first thought was, "How kind of him". I asked the Secretary the normal questions about the Brother only to be told that there was no information about this Brother as he was not a member of our Lodge. I remember asking, "Are you sure", "Is that possible"? After several late night hours surfing the Internet and sending out numerous emails I did receive a response. Worshipful Brother Roy Isaac Swisher was a 50 Year member of J. Simpson Africa Lodge #628 located in Stroudsburg, PA. He was Raised in 1941, became Master of his Lodge in 1947. When he moved to Phoenix he started attending lodge at Phoenicia and enjoyed the fellowship of our Lodge. His wife Lexia M. Swisher passed away in early 1994. He was called to the Celestial Lodge in January of 2001 and his estate was finally settled last month. I also know that the Brothers that he associated with at Phoenicia thought well of him and treated him accordingly, and he them, although I do not know their names. The gift proves it so. If you should have more information regarding Brother Swisher, please don't hesitate to give me a call. Fraternally, Randall Smith, Worshipful Master FROM THE WEST Brethren, I bring you greetings from the West. In November, at our Stated Meeting, we will be having elections of our Officers for the new year. Phoenicia Lodge is building for a great future. We have several new candidates and Brothers affiliating with Phoenicia which I look forward to welcoming. I want to see our lodge continue to succeed for the Masons of the future and Masonry in general, but we need everyone's help bringing in new members, joining us for our Saturday breakfast at the Lodge, being on a committee, or taking part in a degree. I know it is hard at times to dedicate your time to be a line officer, but that doesn't mean that you can't take a small part to help us grow. With due notice, most of us can plan to partake in an activity or be involved with a degree for our Lodge. I challenge everyone to make a small commitment to the future of Phoenicia Lodge. If each one of us does that, we can have one of the most active lodge participation in the country. Fraternally, Gregory S. Weisman, Senior Warden FROM THE SOUTH Greetings Brethren, I cannot believe how quickly time passes. Here it is November and time for elections again. This brings up the subject of voting. The stated meeting on November 8, 2005 will be your golden opportunity to elect the officers of your Lodge. We can always use your support and welcome your input and advice on the upcoming issues. Fraternally, Don S. Methven PM, Junior Warden DRIVERS WANTED November is upon us and we are again making plans to drive the electric carts around Chandler Mall in order to introduce ourselves and familiarize the public with Masonry, explain what we do and how to become a Mason. Yes, we will also be accepting donations for the Lodge and other Masonic charities. As with last year, we will be breaking the shifts down into manageable blocks of time so no one will have to devote the better part of their day or evening unless they want to. This event can be a lot of fun, so when asked to drive, be generous with your time. PERPETUATING THE LODGE INSURING OUR LEGACY The Lodge needs your help, I know you have heard this before, but we are not asking any more of you than to think of friends or co-workers who you feel would make good masons. What we ask of you is to talk to these men about the Lodge and Masonry and if they (or he) may be interested, the Lodge can send you the petition to be completed and returned, and the Lodge will take it from that point through to completion. That's it! We will not ask you to coach or anything else. The changes that have occurred over the last few years no longer require a candidate to memorize the old Q & A proficiency test. There is a short explanation of the degree to be read and a battery of written questions to answer. A lodge can only grow if its members continue to support it through participation, new candidates, new members, or all of the above. If you recommend a candidate and he recommends a friend and others, I think you can see what I mean. Phoenicia can grow, thrive, and continue to be the Lodge you joined. From a Brother who Cares. FRIEND TO FRIEND NIGHT Our next “Friend to Friend” night will be held on November 29th, the fifth Tuesday of the month. Brother Scot Baker will present the “Friend to Friend” program to the members and their guests at 7:00 pm. Refreshments will be served before the presentation. By the way, we have gained new members from the last two Friend to Friend meetings so it does work. Bring a friend or relative and share the fellowship.
