PHOENICIA BYLAWS RESOLUTION AND NOTIFICATION

Phoenicia Lodge No. 58, currently operating under dispensation and holding it’s meetings and general operations at 16027 N. 25th Street, Phoenix, AZ. We desire to remain at this location until such time as the membership may deems otherwise.

A resolution was presented to the membership at Phoenicia’s March 8th Stated Meeting. The members accepted a revision to our bylaws to reflect the new location of our Stated Meeting and general operations as a Lodge. The change reads as follows:

Resolved that Article 3, Section 1, Paragraph 1, currently reads as follows: “The Lodge shall hold its meetings in the City of Scottsdale, County of Maricopa, and State of Arizona.” The resolution deletes the words, "City of Scottsdale”, and substitutes “City of Phoenix”, to reflect the change in venue.

Please note that this is considered proper notification as outlined by the Arizona Masonic Code.

This Resolution was first read at the Stated Meeting held on March 8, 2005 and will be read and voted on at the April 12th Stated Meeting.

FROM THE EAST

Greetings Brethren,

One of the phenomena that I’ve witnessed while working my way up through the chairs is the recycling of officers in the Lodge. Over the years I’ve seen masters sit in the east two years in a row, which is not that unusual. And, of course it’s not uncommon to see a Secretary or Treasurer hold that office for an extended term.

Today, you may see a Deacon or Tyler, or a Marshal sit in that particular chair year after year. Why? Lack of new membership.

Some Lodges don’t have this problem because their elder members are promoting Masonry. They are eager to help the Lodge flourish and grow and to see young men become Masons. We too can support our Lodge and insure it’s future by introducing a friend or associate or relative to Masonry.Recommend a good man to the Lodge.

It’s okay to brag of your Masonic ties. Show your pride in being a Mason and tell people of the good things that Masons do. These are the kinds of things that make other men want to become a Mason. Support your Lodge by recommending to us good men. We are the future of Masonry.

Fraternally,

Randall Smith, Worshipful Master

FROM THE WEST

Greetings Brethren,

As the sun is in the West, I greet you. I would like to thank everyone who attended a great Sweetheart Dinner for our Ladies. We paid tribute to those who had passed and honored their wives for their love of our brothers.

This month we need to get the word out about our lodge. We planned a Friend to Friend Night for March 29. This is our prospect party for potential members. Please tell your friends about it, so they can learn more about us.

I'm in need of pictures, film, video, or anything that can be videotaped for a presentation at Scottsdale DeMolay's 50 Anniversary Party.

The party will be held at the Scottsdale Masonic Hall on May 6, 2005. (WHAT TIME?) There will be a FREE dinner (RSVP), a video presentation, and the Ceremony of Lights will be performed. I’m hoping that many of the Brethren who were DeMolay or Advisors can help out.

As we close out the day, I want to give thanks to all who keep us free.

Fraternally,

Gregory S. Weisman, Senior Warden

FRIEND TO FRIEND NIGHT

As you may know, we hold our “Friend to Friend” Night on the fifth Tuesday every quarter and this March was no exception. W. Bro. Pat Hayes honored us with his presentation of what Masons are all about. We had a good dinner and a good turn out, and received one new petition.

SWEETHEARTS DINNER

The Sweethearts’ Dinner was an enjoyable evening for everyone attending and reminded us of our responsibilities to the family of our departed Brethren. I thank Laura Paget and Nora McElwain for sharing the evening with us. We missed Ruth Maag, who was unable to attend.

CORNERSTONE CEREMONY AT
SAN LUIS HIGH SCHOOL

This dedication was a symbolic laying of a cornerstone at San Luis High School located south of Yuma, Arizona. The ceremony was performed by the Most Worshipful Thomas Brooker and the Grand Lodge of Arizona. It was hosted by Yuma Lodge #17.

The dedication was in time for the school’s first graduating class, and honored the graduating seniors and the faculty that make public education work.

Grand Lodge was opened and called to refreshment in the usual manner at Yuma #17. We took a bus to San Luis High School where the principal and senior student body welcomed M.W. Bro. Thomas Brooker and the other Grand Lodge members and thanked them for the dedication.

We returned to Yuma Lodge, closed in the usual manner, peace and harmony prevailing, and the members of Yuma Lodge treated us to a very nice lunch.

R.W. BRO. DAVID LUEBKE MAKES HIS OFFICIAL VISIT

On March 8th we were honored with an official visit from R. W. David Lubeke Junior Grand Warden of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Arizona.

Dinner was served prior to the meeting. During the meeting I was able to persuade the R.W. in assisting me in presenting W. Brother Phil Zielinger, 33° with a small gift for his assistance as Installing Master of the 2005 Officers. The usual business was conducted and it was a good night for fellowship.
